Halle, Germany, 13 September 2011 – Scil Proteins, a private biotech company
specialized in the research, development and production of recombinant
proteins, today announced that it has appointed Dr. Ulrich Haupts as its new Chief Scientific Officer.
As of 1st October, Dr. Haupts will replace Scil Proteins‘ previous CSO,
Dr. Arnd Steuernagel.
Dr.
Haupts joins Scil Proteins from Bayer Healthcare, where he has held the
position of Director of Protein Optimization for the last three years. His main
responsibilities in this position included managing all efforts in lead
optimization with a primary focus on antibody optimization and assay
development. Prior to that, he spent seven years at Direvo Biotech (which was
subsequently acquired by Bayer Schering Pharma in 2008) as Department Head of Assay
Development and later, as Vice President of R&D Biopharmaceuticals. In
addition, Dr. Haupts also worked for three years at SmithKline
Beecham UK in the New Assay Technology group. Dr. Haupts received his PhD in
1996 from the Max-Planck Institute for Biochemistry in Martinsried, Germany and
performed a two-year post-doctoral fellowship at Cornell University working in
the field of mass spectrometry and fluorescence correlation spectroscopy.
